Andalas University is the oldest university located outside of Java. The university was officially founded in 1956. The campus is located in the hilly region of Limau Manis, Kecamatan Pauh on 500 hectare of land and about 255 m above sea level. It is about 15 km away from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatera.

At the moment Post Graduate Programme (Master and Doctoral Degree) covers 12 Study Programs:

  • Agronomy
  • Region and Rural Area Development
  • Soil Science
  • Veterinary science
  • Entomology dan Phytophatology
  • Planning and Development
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Environmental Science
  • Agroindustrial Technology
  • Law
  • Management

Since 2009, Andalas University has developed collaboration with Kassel University in Germany. The umbrella of collaboration is IGN-TTRC (Indonesian-German Network for Teaching, Training and Research Collaboration. The university's focus is to establish a curriculum that is equivalent to a German MSc degree and to enable our Master graduates  to rapidly integrate into a German PhD program. The program is also aimed at the identification of research collaboration activities among researchers in a variety of scientific area in the future. By joining the IGN-TTRC, some related Study Programs will be enriched or improved by the modules prepared by professors from the Kassel University with slight adaptation to the local conditions while maintaining the German curriculum standard.
All related study programs, for instance: Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Agroindustry, Pharmacy, Medical, and Veterinary, can take benefit and join into that program.
